Did you ever have one of those days where everything goes crazy & you feel like every time you turn around there's another mess to clean & you're just totally exhausted and the days not over yet (I still had to go to church & teach my class to the 3 & 4 year olds!)...Well, that was me yesterday!! By about 6:00pm I was cleaning up the dinner dishes & loading them into the dishwasher ~ but of course, I got called into another room (as most Moms do countless times a day!) & forgot that I left the dishwasher door open...
Well, let me give you a little background information about the drama that goes on in our house between me, the dishwasher & a little guy named Jake. He has a bionic ear when it comes to me loading the dishes into the dishwasher...No matter what room he is in, when he hears the dishes clanking, he does his superfast crawl (and I'm not joking - this kid is a fast crawler!) & it's a race against the clock to see how many dishes & cups & utensils I can get loaded in before Jake gets to me & I have to quickly close the door ~ Otherwise he quickly empties all of the stuff that I just put in! It's actually quite comical to watch if you're not the one participating.
Anyway, to continue with my original drama... last night after dinner while loading the dishwasher, I got called into the other room - (probably the bathroom to help Matthew or something!) Then I was on my way back to the kitchen when Danny (who was watching tv at the time) asked me to hang out & sit down for a minute - I was so tired at that point & of course would rather snuggle on the couch next to him than do housework, so I joined him for a bit ~ I totally forgot about whatever I was doing before & actually felt relaxed for a minute until I heard a strange noise...Clang, clank, ding...I flew off the couch because at that moment, I now remembered what it was I was doing 5 minutes before - LOADING THE DISHWASHER!!! I flew into the kitchen to see Jake on the floor with a bunch of the dirty utensils next to him... It was at that moment that I had two choices to make in a split second - I could A. Scream at him "Noooo, Jake, you'll get hurt & you're undoing all of my work that I've already done & Mommy's so tired!!" & then start to cry because of shear exhaustion & despair & the fact that Jake would now be crying because my yelling frightened him or B. Decide that life is too short to freak out over every little thing, and yelling at my children is not going to do anything productive to change the situation & to thank God that he didn't get hurt & just say this is life with a toddler and then go grab my camera to capture the moment for posterity!
I chose Option B...
and here he is...caught in the act!

Jake can come to my house and play with my dishwasher any time he wants, he is sooo cute..he can press all the buttons! Did you know that everytime you come over Matthew plays with the garbage disposal, the red light is always on when you are there!! I shut it off and a few minutes later it's on again! So funny I never told you before, this reminded me of it..Hope this post goes through!!
this is a catch up post and it's for Becky< I love the picture of you and Spike. He looks just like my old horse Buck, a bay app with a frost blanket.. It is hard work to learn to ride. I am very proud of you. I can't wait till the day that you and I can do a trail ride together. Once you ride in the woods you will love it. It's so quiet and beautiful. I especially like the Fall when the leaves crunch under foot. Go for it!
Reminds me of his mommy at about the same age--not a dishwasher, I didn't have one--but a dressing table with freshly laundered and folded clothes for little Suzie.
The little darlin' would just empty that storage unit in a blink of an eye. Because we had a two story home, I had one up and one down. Fortunately, most of her belongings were up, but down was enough to wreak havoc by all measures. Gotta love the toddler stage--I know I did, and still do.
Love, grandee
